Thanks for this tip. I’ll keep this in mind the next time I’d literally touch grass (like a camping trip or sth), lol!
Just an ordinary myopic internet enjoyer.

Yeah, I suppose it isn’t as crazy as I thought people would perceive it to be.
I’ve always used a Bluetooth speaker for listening to music in the shower. It’s much easier and doesn’t require me touching my phone.
Doesn’t this damage your Bluetooth speaker? Or is it, and especially its controls, waterproof/water-resistant?
Hahaha! Touché. I’ve had none. I’ve some weird thoughts as I drift off to sleep though.
I sometimes listen to music or watch videos in the shower. I double-bag it in clear plastic bags, and then put it in a safe location. When I change songs or videos, I can interact with the screen like normal. Maybe it’s just my phone or the plastic bags I use–maybe both?
I use something like below, minus the ziplock:
I suppose there are actual products meant for making phones more waterproof in these situations, but I didn’t bother looking for those.
I’ve used my smartphone in the shower a handful of times already, but I usually take steps to double bag it (put it in a clear plastic bag upside down first, fold the excess, then put it in another clear plastic bag the right way up this time). I also just let it play music/video so that I can listen/watch while I shower.
It feels like a luxury to me when I do that.
It seems like they applied this retroactively as well. I remember my account (this one, from lemmy.world) having four reputation points, and I barely had any activity yesterday. It’s now over 900.
Not that I really get to see it unless I really seek it out.
My girlfriend’s grandfather decided almost overnight that he was an old man and suddenly began to act the part.
This has brought quite a funny mental image to me.
A man like this
suddenly turning into this
almost like magic.
Coming from someone who was your age before you were born: you do you.
‘Age’ is mostly just a matter of experience and perspective anyways. I could be as old as earth itself but lack the experience to know any better. On the other hand, you could have a better perspective on things (compared to me) because you have been through a lot, or is more thoughtful and reflective about things.
I am currently using LibreWolf (I am assuming that’s what you meant by librefox), and aside from getting used to a non-chromium-based browser (which is almost all of them nowadays), it’s really fine.
Besides, why wait to try it out? Get used to it before you have to.
I use adblock (uBlock origin) because the internet is nigh unusable otherwise. It’s incredibly risky (even irresponsible) to not have adblock turned on given the danger of malware, or malware in the guise of advertisements. However, I’d whitelist sites that are decent about it–though in practice, I find it risky to temporarily disable my adblock just to test things, much less to whitelist them.
Most of all, there are other, better, ways to support content creators in the internet.
I only wish I can actually go ahead and buy one; good pillows as well.
But then again, I’m just in a really shitty financial situation. Maybe when things turn around for me, I can invest on those.
Proper dental hygiene is something that one should make a habit from a young age. By the time one realizes its value, like I did, it might already be too late.
Ditto with sleep hygiene. Those two are habits that I think should be learned and reinforced from a young age.
It’s not just OPs strange and mysterious predicament that has made this thread epic, but also the genuine efforts of some of us to help OP in the midst of wild, off the wall, guessing.
And then there’s the misplaced reply that ended up in the perfect place.
And I’m glad to have seen it first hand.
Granted, but your thoughts are transmitted to the person looking at you.
Not just the architecture, but also the possible logistics of such an event. Who’d contact John Oliver’s PR team, for example. What about the scheduling? Also, while I think people here are good-natured enough that it might not be necessary, who’d be making sure that the thread responses (the questions) don’t violate any community and instance rules?
I may be overthinking it, but such a huge event would involve a lot of coordination from many different people.
I’m aware that Richard Stallman had some questionable or inadequate behaviours. I’m not defending those nor the man himself. I’m not defending blindly following that particular human (nor any particular human). I’m defending a philosophy, not the philosopher. I claim that his historical vision and his original ideas are still adequate today. Maybe more than ever.
This is really an important note. I’ve always maintained that while not every little one of Stallman’s ideas are gold, his ideas on things he’s got expertise on (especially open-source software) are pretty much on point—even if his ideas are a bit too idealistic and are seen as aspirational ideals rather than calls for action and the fact that a lot of them are painful for ordinary people to follow.
That’s my Subscriptions feed, sorted by hot. This is the only post that’s about that orangered site.
PS: Oh, if you’re wondering, yeah, that’s from Lemm.ee I am using my lemmy.world account right now to make this comment though.
