  • That would just make them even bigger targets than they already are. And now they won’t have a way to defend themselves? That sounds like a nightmare. I used to play Overwatch and would always play support. There’s no way in hell i’d trust my team to help me if I’m being attacked. They’re probably just gonna jump ahead and say “I need healing!” fifteen times and call me a trash healer as I get the shit beaten out of me with no way to fight back. If this is how support roles worked nobody would play them. I already get left to my own devices as the rest of the team ignores me getting attacked in the back line. It’s already a thankless and painful role to play and this would make it unbearable.

  • I don’t know what game you’re playing because I’ve never run into this issue before. I’ve played through year 4 on several different farms and never encountered anything of this magnitude. I’ve been playing this game since day one and have had nothing but positive experiences and so has pretty much everyone else. If minor adjustments to gameplay are enough to classify a game as being in perpetual Early Access, then every single game that is being made today is in perpetual Early Access. In fact in most games you don’t even get the new content with the updates. Also, the game costs $20 it’s not like you’re spending over $100 for the Premium Deluxe Edition Game of the Year Season Pass Preorder Bundle. It’s $20 and goes on sale so frequently you could pick it up for $5 four or five times a year.

  • Bro, the man’s basically releasing free dlc not updating an early access game. The game was never in early access and all your saves are compatible with the new expansions (I sometimes still play the same farm I’ve had since the game was first released). The game already has more content than any other game in the genre and ConcernedApe is still releasing all updates for free and promised to never charge for anything new added to the game. What is there to complain about when you’re getting free shit where in most games it costs $5 to $10?

  • Jesus Christ that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. The submarine in the game Iron Lung was safer to drive than this thing.

But Wilby said that for the Titan, the coordinate data was transcribed into a notebook by hand and then entered into Excel before loading the spreadsheet into mapping software to track the sub’s position on a hand-drawn map of the wreckage.

The OceanGate team tried to perform these updates at least every five minutes, but it was a slow, manual process done while communicating with the gamepad-controlled sub via short text messages.

Updates every FIVE MINUTES?! I wouldn’t even trust this thing in a damn swimming pool.

I was so worried about this game being bad. Not that I didn’t trust them to make a game as good as the first Frost Punk, but more that some of the expansions for the first game were pretty meh. Still good, but nothing like the original experience of the game. Anything above a 7 is a great sign as it’s not a game for everyone. The fact that it got a decent amount of 8’s and 9’s is even better. I can’t wait to play it!

… After I beat the first one again.

  • I’m kinda in the same boat but on the other side. I always try to argue with people about this. It gets me a lot of flak on pro AI posts but that won’t stop me. I usually get very aggressive replies and sometimes some fucked up dm’s too.

I’m against it because we are already seeing the consequences of this technology and it’s only getting worse. By the time laws catch up it’s gonna be too late and the damage will be done. For some technologies that’s not always the worst. But we already saw how long it took for anyone to do anything about the Internet when it came out, and we are still trying to this day. This shit is growing so fast we will all feel the whiplash. Sites like Facebook are getting absolutely flooded with so much AI that they are becoming almost unusable. And that’s before we even get into the shady shit people use AI for like making porn of people they know with the click of a button. I recently read an article about how bad deepfake porn is in South Korea (found the article. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/12/world/asia/south-korea-deepfake-videos.html). And in places like the US, where a lot of these companies are based, they are so slow to do anything about a problem it’s going to be too late by the time they get to it.

But besides all the awful things happening because of AI, I do have one personal gripe with the whole ordeal. Why are we so quick to replace the things we enjoy with AI? When I get home from work I like to make music and practice pixel art (I’m not very good at either yet). I’d much rather have AI replace my job than my hobbies. I’m down for things that are useful, but too much of this just gives me a bad gut feeling. Like their trying to replace people and not their jobs.

This may be the future. But it sounds like a pretty dystopian future to me. You already can’t believe everything you see on the Internet and this will only make it worse.

  • In my life I’ve had several HDD’s and SSD’s fail on me. None of that shit lasts forever and you would honestly be surprised how often they fail. For huge servers like data centers the average failure rate is between 1% and 2% per year, and sometimes even higher. They literally have to replace hard drives on a daily basis because of failure.

Disk failure is one of the reasons I have copies of all of my important stuff saved to every hard drive on my computer, along with an external just in case. One time my system drive failed and I couldn’t save anything because my operating system stopped working. Had to reinstall the OS and do a data recovery. Ended up with a bunch of photos that were corrupted, distorted, or missing half the photo.

  • Fuck Elon Musk, but don’t discourage human curiosity and stupidity. There’s nothing humans love more than conquering an impossible task. Humanity would have never made it as far as we did without people doing stupid and crazy shit. Humanity is the kinda species that just says “fuck it, we ball” and then proceeds to just do exactly what they shouldn’t do. Shit like walking across ice sheets to new continents because why not and go to the fucking moon.

Someone will figure it out eventually. Might take a couple hundred years (if we don’t kill ourselves first) but we’ll get there.

  • And that’s kinda my point. I understand that transformation is totally fine but these LLM literally copy and paste shit. And that’s still if you are comparing AI to people which I think is completely ridiculous. If anything these things are just more complicated search engines with half the usefulness. If I search online about how to change a tire I can find some reliable sources to do so. If I ask AI how to change a tire it would just spit something out that might not even be accurate and I’d have to search again afterwards just to make sure what it told me was even accurate.

It’s just a word calculator based on information stolen from people without their consent. It has no original thought process so it has no way to transform anything. All it can do is copy and paste in different combinations.
