  • Agree or delete account is real “good guy gabe” energy.

    What a fucking trash monopoly

Edit: Ok for the corporate apologists; the company gave 0 days notice to this. You HAVE to agree or you can’t access your account, which locks you out of your games. The only options you have are to agree or delete account.

At least discord allowed you to opt out by a certain date when they updated to forced arbitration. Not only is steams move here to protect their 30% take on transactions, more than double of competitors, but steam is also choosing to fuck people over who don’t want to agree. Supposedly if steam ever went under they’d let you continue to access your games but i guess they can instead just enshittify their subscriber agreement so that no one would still have an account. For instance you now agree to only access your games for 1 minute per day and you will be charged $1000 for each time you start up steam would be a great way to force people to delete their accounts so steam doesn’t have to honor their EULA.

But go ahead, keep talking about how good gabe is. Steam is a monopoly. And there are no good monopolies.

  • Ive had this happen a few times. It goes something like this:

    • i buy product and initiate return
    • i ship item with return label
    • as soon as return label is scanned then amazon will release the funds back to me
    • if for some reason they don’t get that package then they say they didn’t get the item back and take the funds back. When this has happened to me it has been 6+ months later
    • when i asked amazon about it they just tell me they didn’t get it back. I tell them i have the shipping confirmation receipt and that this is someone else’s problem and not mine.
    • there’s a lot of back and forth and eventually they act like they’re doing me a favor by giving me my money back

I think the problem was one of the drop off locations we used was stealing products, or just straight up losing them. But it is insane to me that amazon comes back 6 months later. The only thing worse than buying a broken dildo on amazon is returning the broken dildo and still getting charged for it. Getting fucked by the broken dildo twice and not in the ways i had hoped!

  • This happened to me last year. Bought a cs4 and cs5 design suites back when they came out. Only ever used on one computer. When i unauthorized my computer and moved it to a new one they wouldn’t authorize it and demanded proof of purchase. I showed those fuckers a paper receipt from 10-15 years ago. They wouldn’t accept it and required additional information to verify i was authorized to purchase the software at the discounted price from an authorized retailer. It took several back and forth before they issued a new cd key instead of reactivating mine.

I suspect the cdkeys were cracked at some point and i just had the unfortunate luck of mine being abused. Would be nice if they didn’t require online authentication for a product i legitimately own though. If they are going to require online authentication then they need a more secure way of generating their cd keys.

  • Yeah, it’s bad. Surprised they’re still serving that crap in their own bundle but i guess some things don’t change.

Filezilla is no relation to mozilla. But yeah i moved away from it years ago. The general recommendation I’ve seen is “anything but filezilla”. Personally i use winscp for windows, and will have to figure out what to use when i switch my daily driver to Linux.

They did, and they still have the rpi foundation with that goal, as well as the for-profit subsidiary.

It’s a flaw with effective altriusm-- you have a goal of fixing some large scale problem and at some point you realize you need large amounts of capital to expand your impact. But the interim period you are just going to be amassing wealth with this idea of doing good. And even then, you may never reach a point where you feel like you earned enough to solve your problem. I.e sam bankman fried

Now I’m not saying that rpi foundation hasn’t done good in the world. I’m just saying that they did start off with a lofty goal and it is clear that they are wanting to expand and make more money. Maybe this means someday they’ll be able to do even greater things through the rpi foundation… but I’m not optimistic
