      Hol’up. Surprise Alastair Reynolds, ref?

Prob not, but it’s good hard sci-fi, if I may shamelessly juxtapose it here. If not, then I apologize and agree.

I haven’t played No Man’s Sky in a few years. I’m blown away that they’re still releasing free major content. Did they add in game purchases or something? Or are they literally just offering everything for free once you’ve purchased the base game?

      Yes.

Apparently they made so much money up front with the game, and are such a small studio, that they can just do free updates basically forever and be fine. Plus, each update also brings new players.

@CitizenKong @jballs I understand that Sean would want to please those who were disappointed after the launch, but it says something about the lack of greed of Hello Games that they haven’t charged for *any* update long after most would say that they’ve delivered on their original promise.

I don’t play NMS all that much, but if they put out a Ko-Fi link or whatever and said “Hey, we wanna treat our hard working team to a nice Christmas bonus, but our funds are tied up in [payroll / new game development / whatever]; if you’d care to toss a few bucks their way, here’s the link”, I’d toss them $20 immediately. With all the enshittification of gaming going on right now, fuck yes I’d help those fucking beauties toward giving their families a nice holiday.

Yes but at the same time the price of the game hasn’t dropped below a certain point so they’re probably still earning a little bit off new sales.

I think this is them merging engine changes they’re making for their new game though.

This is almost certainly corresponding to changes made for the new game that they decided to merge into NMS too, because why not? Since they use very similar technology it only makes sense. Improve the previous game, increasing sales, while also generating goodwill with users that prove you’ll work on your games for years to come, all with the only cost being what it takes to integrate stuff you were going to make anyway.

    Ugh, finally –

Fixed an issue that prevented Cream Fingers from being edible.

Those floating islands with their own waterfalls look amazing, can’t wait to set up a base on one.

Random world gen is always probably gonna make floating islands but i like how they worked with that and made it a feature cus who doesn’t want to land a starship on a floating wizard castle

I was really hoping planets would have different bioms, maybe in part 2. Still always excited to see updates coming to this game. I always say “next update I’ll get into it”

Honestly, I am not seeing a big difference so far. I loaded my various saves and checked to see if any of my bases were affected, but didn’t see much of a change. Yes, clouds and water are better looking, and some planets had some new terrain features, but nothing major. I wonder if they limited the impacts to existing inhabited planets?

I would assume already discovered planets aren’t really affected

I could be mistaken but when they released the pirate update they said only undiscovered system as not to mess with the existing conflict levels or soemthing

My main base planet changed to an ugly shade of orange and now there’s bubble atmosphere that wasn’t there before. The geometry looks about the same, but there are some changes that could be a little upsetting.

I much rather have this update though and build a new base on another planet.

I’ve seen both happen in previous updates, so I don’t know what the intention was with this particular update.
