  • I played the beta. I wouldnt call it a good game but it was a game that i enjoyed playing. Maybe i liked it because ever since i was a kid, i was always fascinated by mad max/waterworld. Having your own vehicle, roaming a hostile desert(or sea).

You have a customizable ship, you can build it how you want. And you have a base that can be built and upgraded. And a giant open world with a forgetful story and generic npc. The gameplay was ok, though the world of warships has infinitely superior naval combat. I think it is using similar to war thunder naval combat(same publisher), which is a bit too arcadey for my taste(not that world of warships is a simulator, but it is a more immersive experience).

  • I bought the game in 2013, refunded it in 2017. When i bought the game was because i wanted a spacesim and star citizen was basically my perfect game. I expected the game to be out by late 2016 or 2017, at least the singleplayer story.

Even now, i am still hopeful. I refunded because at that point they didnt need my money and it was ridiculous how the game was still nowhere near release. Also the game run like shit and the fun factor was too low, it was too much of a simulator.

I dont think it is a complete scam. It is obvious there has been an insane amount of effort gone into this game. Maybe part of the funds have been abused but they have been developing this game for over 10 years with 500+ devs and that is really expensive.

  • You can only play games that you already own on geforcenow, you dont get access to any “free” games. You can play steam games, origin, even some gamepass games(as long as you have a pc gamepass subscription). But again, the game selection is limited. It used to be unlimited but then the game publishers complained so now only approved games are available(1600 or so games).

The xbox cloud gaming is shit in comparison. First of all, it runs on xbox consoles, so you need to use a controller, cant use mouse and keyboard. Secondly, the latency and overall tech is at least a generation behind geforcenow. Then again, you get what you pay for. Xbox cloud is an extra 5€, geforcenow can be 20€ a month. Geforcenow has convinced me that cloud gaming is the future, it’s that good. Xbox cloud is “eh, ok, kinda cool that it kinda works”. I am somewhat playing starfield on the xbox cloud and it aint terrible.

I think i will buy cyberpunk and its expansion to play them on geforcenow. Honestly, if i could play all games on geforcenow, i dont think i would buy a new gpu. With cloud gaming, you not only not have to pay for the hardware, you also dont have to pay for the electricity, since you are only running a videostream on your end, which uses very little power and can be run on almost anything. Though when i tried gaming on my lg oled’s browser, it wasnt great, lots of issues, though it technically worked. Maybe it was some bluetooth fuckiness.

  • Yeah, it was both. The european brands avoided electric cars for a long time, while the chinese pushed hard for them. And because electric motors and car batteries were a new technology, this was a great opportunity for the chinese to pull ahead(everyone started from 0).

And the chinese also used their cooperations and acquisitions(Volvo and Lotus are owned by the chinese brand Geely), in order to improve the conventional car making part production(everything other than the electric engine and batteries). Tesla followed a similar arc. Their motors/batteries are great, the other parts started as bad but they are improving all the time.

  • Neither Europe nor the US can make chips like this, thats why they are trying so hard to convince TSMC to make a chip fab in their territories. Does this mean that white people are too stupid to make chips? No, they just cant atm and they arent willing to invest the infinite time and money it would take to reach that level, especially since their ally Taiwan(TSMC) is already making the most advanced chips in the world.

China on the other hand needs to become more self reliant, especially with the new Cold War escalating. So they have to do it. And they are doing it. But it will still take a lot of time and money to be able to manufacturer modern high end chips.

TSMC is taiwanese, which is “yellow” people. Why are you trying to spin this as a racist thing? Literally the best people in the world manufacturing chips are taiwanese(han). Why would anyone think that the chinese, who are basically the same ethnicity(han), wont be able to make advanced chips because of racial reasons?

  • Because manufacturing super high tech chips is extremely hard and complicated and basically only a couple companies in the world can do it and they also depend on parts and technology from other companies all over the “western” world. China didnt have anything near this capability. It requires advanced research and knowhow on a million different technologies. So unless China does extensive industrial espionage(which they are trying to do), it’s gonna take them like 10+ years to start producing anything relatively modern without needing any external parts/help.

In any case, it remains to be seen if it is actually 7nm. With a new cold war ramping up, China is trying to become self-reliant as much as possible.

  • Asking people to buy amd because it is “good enough” in order to avoid monopoly, isnt a sound business strategy. Thats why amd’s gpu share has plummeted. There are basically zero amd 7xxx cards in steam charts, while all nvidia 4xxx cards are skyrocketing in market share. Every year, as more and more old amd gpus die, amd’s market share drops a percent.

Intel cant even run the most anticipated game of the year, Starfield. How the fuck does that happen? Did they not contact Bethesda to ask for the code before the game was released?

The only reason AMD GPU’s are even as good as they are now is due to the research money they got from Ryzen taking the fight to Intel.

Amd was getting Ls in the cpu market too, after intel released the core 2 duo. It wasnt till ryzen and especially ryzen 2 that amd bounced back. They need to do that with gpus too. And when they were taking Ls, at least they could offer more cores. What does amd gpus offer? More vram? Maybe the 7800xt will be good but it needs to be faster than 4070, while offering 16GB vram, for 100$ less.

Even if it has same rasterization performance for 100$ less than the 4070 might not be good enough. I dont think 12gB is going to be a significant bottlenecked in the future(outside of specific scenarios, which you can adjust a few settings) and people are willing to pay a bit more to get access to nvidia features(dlss, better ray tracing performance, lower power consumption, etc). I am still hopeful for the 7800xt, though the 7900xt has 40% more cores, so it is significantly cut down. But the 7800xt is using a higher frequency as a crutch.

People used to make fun of intel and nvidia for decades, for using so much power and pushing frequency just for their shitty architectures to be somewhat competitive. But when it comes to amd gpus, i guess that is acceptable because they are the underdog.

But personally, as someone living in a house without an ac, i’d rather not die while gaming during the summer. In fact, i am trying cloud gaming atm and i love how quiet and not hot my pc is while i am gaming on the cloud.

  • Efficiency matters, it has always mattered. A card that uses less power, requires less cooling. Therefore it can be quieter, less warm(important during the summer), cheaper to make(smaller heatsink) and in the long run, significantly cheaper(less power consumption).

Efficiency equals performance. The more efficient your architecture is, the more performance you can get out of it. They are the same thing. Just because nvidia decided to scam everyone by significantly downgrading all non 4090 gpus, doesnt mean that this isnt true. Amd simply isnt competitive anymore so nvidia can afford to scam everyone and everyone continues buying nvidia.

Amd is barely cheaper(per performance) than nvidia. I am tired of all this bullshit internet propaganda about amd’s offerings. All the reviewers are talking about how much better amd is, while amd cards offer 10% better rasterization performance at best(for the same money). And while all those reviewers run nvidia gpus and havent run an amd gpu on their daily machine in 10 years.

Just imagine if tomorrow the roles were reversed and nvidia was making gpus that used infinitely more power for equal performance with less features and shittier performance on cutting edge features. In fact, you dont need to imagine, this was the case for almost 15 years with dx9 and even dx12 cards. Take an amd 290 and compare it with an nvidia 780. Hell, nowadays even the 280x, a card that cost 50% the price of a 780, beats the nvidia 780.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcTGAk2Ejzw

Thats because amd’s gpu architecture used to be amazing and infinitely more futureproof. But the current amd gpu architecture is clearly inferior and power consumption is a big indicator of that. Amd is forced to push so much power through their cards in order to get competitive performance. While nvidia is literally chopping the legs of its cards and lobotomizes them, in order to maximize profits and despite all that nvidia cards are still competitive. Thats how far ahead nvidia’s architecture is atm.

Tbf, a part of this difference is because of the manufacturing node but thats a choice AMD made. The soon to be released 7800xt is similar in size to a 4080, a card that is basically twice as fast(and expensive). A card that has a big part of its architecture dedicated to ray tracing and ai cores. Nvidia isnt even trying, like at all.

  • yes I don’t believe the earth is flat or that lizard people control the world - but look back in history and think about all the times the “official” narrative was wrong. WMDs come to mind.

The official narrative for the WMD in Iraq was that WMD didnt exist, according to the UN nuclear inspectors. It was the US that wanted to create an alternative narrative that WMD are a thing, with satellite photos and yellowcake stories. And this is why the vast majority of europeans were against the invasion of Iraq. I think only in the US, the majority of the public supported the invasion.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_reactions_to_the_prelude_to_the_Iraq_War

Most governments opposed it. And even in countries where the government supported it, the public didnt. If your closest allies are telling you “this is bad, dont do it”, then maybe it is bad.

  • 500GB. I wanted to get more storage but then i realized that with 1gbit internet connection, i dont need it, i can download whatever i want in a few minutes. Fast internet is a game changer, it allows me to try and test games without thinking about it.

I also have a 2tB hdd for media but i dont use that to store games.

  • Noone is using windows because it is cool and hip and i doubt microsoft advertises windows. People use windows because they work and do what they want. Maybe they could use ubuntu, but why would they do that? What does ubuntu offer that windows dont?

I’ll tell you why they(including me) dont use linux, because maybe their wifi wont work(or they will have to compile the universe to make it work) or their favourite app or game wont work. And even if you could make a piece of hardware or software work in linux, the performance might be inferior because it will be using generic drivers, instead of the proprietary windows only drivers that the manufacturer has made.

Ultimately, people dont care about open source or privacy enough, to sacrifice their convenience.
