As you’ve already touched on, company culture is everything at small companies. If you fit in well, you’ll love it. If you don’t, you’ll hate it. I would ask to talk to other people in the company besides the CEO and talk to them about what working there is like and what kind of person would fit in well. Personally, I think what they are saying is reasonable. If I start an instance with a particular goal in mind, whatever that goal may be, then I want users that will support that goal. If a user doesn’t support that goal then they should go find an instance that’s a better fit. That’s part of the beauty of the fediverse. You aren’t constrained to a single instance. Users should find instances that fit them rather than expecting instances to change to accommodate them.
