Meh, an RGB notification LED was still much more glanceable. I agree that it’s somewhat redundant, but I had OLED phones with notif LEDs and it was still nice.

Yeah, I just use pause for music, and I have a macropad with f13-18 so I just set one to trigger suspend.
Nice! If I wasn’t using the custom hotkey I’d jump to this for sake of keeping things lightweight. Thanks for sharing.
I maybe wasn’t clear, I didn’t make this, I just found it and figured folks here could benefit from knowing about it!
But no clue if it’ll help with that, worth a shot tho.
Ah I see, ty
If you’re on Android why not just use revanced or Newpipe? Both are excellent and I haven’t had issues with revanced since this change.
Would love to see the military force MS to contribute to WINE development until all govt apps work on Linux.
Oh I agree completely. I also think a lot of people just don’t realize that many of the things they think of as part of Windows can be tweaked or removed, so they just sit there assuming they have to live with it when there’s a fix that most people could implement if they google a how-to guide (or they could ask their nerdy friend).
I love helping friends set up Windows installs, because they’re always so shocked at how little clutter there is and how well everything works. At the same time it makes me mad that all of that is necessary at all, and I’m swearing at Microsoft the whole time I’m helping them.
It’s a single registry key or a single group policy edit, and I’m not talking to the average user, I’m talking to Lemmy users.
I’m saying as far as annoyances in windows go, this is incredibly simple to change if you are at all familiar with tweaking advanced windows shit.
Problem is, there’s a lot of really specialized, critical software, that is provided by vendors and throws an absolute fit with any change. You could maybe run Windows in a VM, but it may not work with the specialized hardware and networking gear being used, and now you’re spending a bunch of extra time and money setting up a vm if windows inside Linux, which means you also have to train everyone on how to use the VM, adds another management/security issue, and adds another point of failure.
If they ever switch (the entire govt should, it would be so awesome to see the govt resources put into Linux development instead of M$ pockets) it’d have to be a very gradual process, and windows would still be around decades from now for legacy systems. (If the US hasn’t imploded in civil war or the planet melted by then 🫠)
I mean for sure but I play games with my nephews so for me dual booting Windows is worth it, and it’s certainly something to consider when deciding how you’re gonna set up your system, as much as that sucks.
I hope it’ll change on games that do, or they’ll set up a workaround for Linux, but for now if you care about a game that uses it, ysk beforehand so that you can decide whether to dump that game or dual boot.
You can remove the Internet search and make it do normal search pretty easily. I know I know you shouldn’t have to, just saying putting an hour into cleaning Windows is worth.
Hope you don’t play anything that uses Windows kernel-level anticheat 🫠
If you’re okay with Windows 10, why not LTSC? No feature updates but you do get security updates for an extended lifecycle.
Press start key, type. Faster than clicking on a search box.
This isn’t about making iPhone users care per se, I really think it’s just a public perception thing.
Yes, a wiki is an EXCELLENT idea. IDK if there are any plans to add wiki functionality on Lemme, but man it’d be nice.
Twitter was absolutely special when it came out. It was the first (or at the very least first successful) social media designed for mobile use. It also had large effects on how people thought about and used social media, and had big impacts on the ways various companies and people interact on social media.
I’ve never particularly cared about twitter personally, I used it a handful of times here and there, and I agree that currently and for a while it’s been a pretty shit slice of social media. But saying it was never special is a stretch at best.
