  • I was formally studying Software Development before I came here, and yeah, I’ve been a sort of techie for the better part of 24 years. Been a LiGNUx user for probably a combined 18 years. If it wasn’t for FOSS I probably would have lost interest long ago, because when I recently tried out some new hobbies I was shocked as I was reminded how much other basic activities cost to seriously engage in. I also happened to migrate from that other website you mentioned, but that’s not important. I really wanted to simply find other forums that weren’t based on one centralized website. Lemmy is kind of a compromise with that for me.

  • I’ve had two. If there’s an infection and the dentist get’s a person on antibiotics several days beforehand, then the procedure has a pretty limited amount of pain. Usually less pain than a typical filling. As others have pointed out, the local anesthetic shots are often the gardest parts which aren’t that bad. Don’t avoid the local anesthetic. If you need more, speak up. Basically, if you can handle a few seconds of being pinched then a root canal is no problem. There are also bad dentists out there.

  • I have a Gazelle12 from 2018 and it’s chassis is dogshit, but when I did my research before purchasing I saw a lot of reviews. They all pointed out that the case was made of flimsy plastic, so I was aware ahead of time of that potential problem. The Oryx Pro was the next Model up for several hundreds more, though. Ultimately, I am happy with my laptop even if I have to disassemble it just to repair the chassis with epoxy periodically. It’s 6 years later and the specs are still more than adequate for 99% of my needs, except for my specific intel processor which isn’t supported by Win11. I consider that a feature as oppose to a problem. The software bloat and planned obsolessence through slowdowns of software on Windows based computers are things I do not miss one bit.

They have since changed their model lineup and I bet the build quality on the other models today aee much better then the Gazelle of 2018.
