I feel you, but Mastodon has about 9 million users and BlueSky has 15 million (if the first results from a search index are to be trusted), but I could not find anywhere even close to 60% of the people in this hobby on Mastodon as I have on BlueSky.

There was a very concentrated push recently of artists (I think it was artists originally) to go to BlueSky and it’s sort of echoed into similarish hobbies. So that’s probably why the user makeup is a little different.

I’m on Lemmy essentially 99% of the time. When I’m on Reddit it’s because of niche hobbies that have more presence there. It’s very rare. (Or search index results.)

I never use Mastodon. I was only on Twitter for very niche and interactive hobbies that do not have enough people to engage with on Mastodon. I mostly use BlueSky now but still use Twitter on occasion. It’s like 50/50 at the moment, but that’s a lot considering my BlueSky account is only like two weeks old.

Lemmy has enough content to keep me entertained for general browsing and most of my hobbies.

Not enough people on Mastodon are into the things I was using Twitter/use BlueSky for.

For me there weren’t enough people on Mastodon in my hobby to make it worthwhile.

I use(d) Twitter for niche interactive hobbies that didn’t have enough people on Mastodon to engage with.

Some professors are just so wack… Like, if I copy your notes verbatim I’m also “stealing” your intellectual property just as much as taking a photo.

Compare this to one of my college professors who would come in, Google the topic, find another universities notes to use, and then complain about them. Worst teacher ever. (He literally fell asleep during students’ presentations and then berated them about weird minute details.)

I’m not interested in exploring 100% of content either, but I hate when games artificially block content off. For narrative reasons, I don’t care. I don’t mind the idea of mutually exclusive companions based on choices in game. But something as minor as gender at character creation? Come on now!

There’s a massive difference between suing and striking. Suing someone means you’re intending to take them to court. A copyright strike is different. I forget if copyright strike implies DMCA or content ID. DMCA possibly involves lawyers (honestly can’t remember) but it removes the content from the site and that’s it (you only go to court if you disagree and they push back). Content ID is an automated process that either removes sounds, portions of videos, or takes a portion of ad revenue.

If it were me, I’d do something like not really focus on what their actual “real” sexuality is unless it is somehow relevant to the plot. Then if it is so something like make them a 1 or a 5 on the Kinsey scale instead of a 0 or a 6.

I don’t think games should be required to do, I’m not trying to force some sort of universal bi/pan agenda. I’m just saying it personally annoys me when I am locked out of pursuing a character just because of the gender I happen to be playing as because I typically don’t play games multiple times. It also annoys me when games don’t allow you to pursue all characters. Like in BG3, as far as I know, all characters are bi/pan but not all are poly. The game forced me to pick between Astarion and Karlach, for example. I put 100 hours or so into the game before I quit. I’m not willing to put over 100 more hours into it just to see what would’ve been different. It’s just a waste of my time.

An alternative approach is only having “sex scene” type content gated behind gender, but everything else can still be seen by friends. E.g., anything a character would eventually tell a lover they still tell close friends. Which is still sort of annoying but not really as bad because you can easily just look up a sex scene, but experiencing things like dialogue and special quests in game isn’t comparable to looking it up on YouTube.
