Not sure if this is remotely on topic, but I think it’s a good interpretation. There are big changes, but the overall plot follows the books well IMO.
There are issues in the books that wouldn’t work on TV, at least not outside of China. Not to mention that maybe 90% of the book characters are Chinese. And perhaps over 90% are men. So I’m not at all bothered that there are major character changes.
